Marriage And Divorce “IN” Jesus Christ
“If they be pleased to dwell” and “if it be possible (to dwell peaceably)” is why marriage and divorce IN Jesus Christ is always a sad possibility, although Jesus labors to avoid it.
Is there marriage and divorce IN Jesus Christ? Yes. Marriage is a ministry from Jesus Christ — a holy calling — to serve Jesus Christ by loving one particular person into Heaven beyond all others you care about … if it be possible to dwell peaceably with each other.
God created marriage
God created marriage to example the love His Son Jesus has for His Bride — Church. Therefore, realize that marriage was never about you and whom you love — you are blessed to participate in a much higher Divine purpose, plan and expression for all humankind and it is about SALVATION and it’s icing on the cake if you have feelings in your flesh building for them. God does not always join persons who had flesh feelings or because of those flesh feelings. Instead, the feelings develop gently, beautifully as each obeys the Lord Jesus Christ. It is impossible to not come to love a person who is treating you with Jesus’ love — that’s just the way God has designed us. God’s love rules.
As we all know, God has beautiful things for us in relationship with Himself — yet everyone does not choose to treat him with love and walk together with Him in his holy love for us. He does NOT choose to fellowship with such persons, whether in the church or outside of church — at some point, His Holy Spirit “lifts” off of you and Him — God divorces you. Yes, God divorces while always seeking the hope that you will reconcile to Him. Sometimes, that reconciliation does not happen, but it is never because God did not try — unless your unwillingness to dwell peaceably with Him was so egregious that He will not reconcile.
1 Corinthians 7:12
If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.”
“And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.”
Romans 12:18
“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
“If they be pleased to dwell with you” is the defining factor in marriage and divorce IN Jesus Christ. Persons are often pleased to continue dwelling in the same house with one another, but will not allow Christ’s peace between you.
Since Jesus is the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6-7), it is not possible to dwell in peace with such a person. For His Gospel’s sake and all He preaches for holy living, God will not bless a violent home in which persons claiming to be Christians do not express Christ’s personality toward one another and, thereby, make His Gospel appear to be a “farce”. It is still all about Jesus and HIS Gospel ministry.
In marriage and divorce, “if it be possible” and if they be pleased to” has been either forgotten, removed or mistaken many times when seeking to preserve Christian marriages. You cannot ignore the counsel from Jesus Christ who created marriage for preserving His Gospel because marriage and family is, above all things, about preserving the Gospel of Jesus Christ until He returns!
In our modern religious Christian System we have, often, transformed marriage into the exclusive personal and worldly enjoyment for ourselves — not for Jesus! Christ’s wisdom is found in 1 Corinthians 7:12-13 for both the man and the woman in a Christian marriage:
Paul said in 1 Corinthians Chapter 7 and verses 12-13 — If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.”
“And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.”
This ‘pleased to dwell’ does not mean …. and it is not intended for preserving that a husband or wife is pleased to continue having a roof over his or her head. It’s only about Jesus and His Gospel ruling how we think of and treat one another while calling ourselves Christians and displaying it in dwelling under the same roof!
Read and study these particular scriptures for God’s counsel by Paul and apply it to you, the husband, or to you, the wife. God’sa full counsel is not exclusive to a husband — saying that the husband should not leave, but the wife could. Neither is it only for the Christian wife — saying she should never leave, but her husband could. Your Christian wife or husband can betray Jesus just like Judas did and just like Lot’s wife did … which leaves you with a decision if their action is too egregious or too repetitive without genuine repentance. This scripture counsel applies to all Christians in every marriage.
Watch now the path of Judas Iscariot’s heart toward Jesus, an individual with free choice:
- Judas was a disciple following Jesus — a Christian — one of the very first!
- Judas had the powers of the Holy Spirit given to him by Jesus to heal the sick, cast out devils, cleanse leprosy, etc..
- Judas knew the Lord’s heart and His ways having seen him in multiple situations for three years!
- Judas laid hands on the sick and saw them recover as Jesus said would be.
- Judas raised the dead, cast out devils, and PREACHED the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as Jesus ordered him to.
- Judas looked the same on the outside … but separation and divorce from fellowship with Jesus in His GOSPEL had already taken place. Your Christian husband or wife can become that way, too.
Judas’ heart was a gradual change. Somewhere during all those public appearances and testimonials about Jesus, Judas privately changed in his heart from loving Jesus’ words, Jesus’ agenda, and even Jesus, Himself.
Judas looked the same on the outside … but separation and divorce from friendship with Jesus had already taken place, secretly, in his heart. Things he began to think about Jesus changed him to start seeking a way to hurt his friend Jesus. It was a divorce! Marriage and divorce from Jesus can occur with any Christian when they follow the path Judas took. Your Christian marriage can look the same to people on the outside as when you first married — but inwardly “damnable” changes in one (or both) spouses toward Jesus Christ have taken place and taken up space.
Jesus is founder and head over any Christian marriage just as He is founder and head over the Church –His Bride:
Therefore, at all times, your soul and spirit survival demands that you choose loyalty to Jesus over loyalty to your husband or wife. Everyone must choose their relationship with Jesus. Divorces from Jesus Christ can happen in a marriage that is supposed to be all about Jesus — just as it happened with Judas who, originally, left all to follow Jesus.
In the church, Jesus has given command for seeking peace, seeking reconciliation, and breaking up from fellowship with an unrepentant Christian brother or sister. He has done the same commands for marriage and this is why marriage and divorce from Jesus can occur.
Perversion of the Gospel can happen to you or the other person in marriage. If you do not acknowledge that your heart is wrong and your resulting behaviors have been wrong toward God and your spouse, you are giving your spouse no options before God but to leave the marriage in order to preserve the Gospel of the Bible Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 10:29).
☛☛☛ The Gospel is far more important to Jesus than the marriage. Remember Lots wife.
Do not be deceived. Whether your Holy Bible reads, “… IF he be pleased to dwell with her” or your Holy Bible reads “… IF she be content to dwell with him” — it means the same thing. No Christian should leave their non-Christian spouse just because you received Jesus into your heart and they have not, yet.
However, no Christian should stay with their “impossible-to-have-peace-with”, but started out with as a Christian spouse or non-Christian spouse if violent atmosphere, thoughts, words, actions exist in the home. This glorifes Satan by teaching people a false Gospel that says Jesus love wants you to endure this and accepting false brethren who can continue “masquerading” in the church while wrecking the home, privately.
Understand the love of Jesus in the born-again heart.
It is not possible that two persons are dwelling together obeying Jesus Christ when the environment is strife, hostility, railing, violence, or bitterness. This is true even when the home is not a marriage. Any household is displeasing to God when one, both, or all persons in it are not living out the peace of God. Above all, it is not only displeasing, it is NOT under the power of the Holy Spirit of God, but is now being ruled by Satan.
No peace between Christians is a horrible witness of Jesus Christ. It’s living a lie and showing up on Sunday for church meetings. Instead of living a lie, someone needs to love Jesus enough to repent. If no change (repentance) after Scriptural counsel, someone needs grace and courage to depart. By continuing the farce of Christian love through putting up with that environment, you don’t realize what defilements and perversions of God’s truth are taking root inside you. You will begin to see things skewed from God’s view in daily matters. That is just what Satan wants for a victory over you, instead of you overcoming him.
PEACE is the key focus by Jesus!
He is the Prince of Peace!
His very Name, identity, personality and Glory is a P E A C E that surpassses all human understanding.
Therefore, if a person is violating the love of God toward you and you are, fearfully, obeying Jesus’ commands, then he or she is NOT content to dwell with the person you are. He or she is pleased to dwell with someone else — someone who will participate with them in their sins — sins of strife, bitterness, anger, wrath, seditions, fierceness and so forth.
Galatians 5:18-21
18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of Go
Observe that the entire mind of God is on you saving your spouse from damnation. Jesus was sent, died a humilitating and unjust death on a tree to keep anyone who is pleased to obey Him from entering danmation. This is the Gospel – He rose from the dead to keep anyone who is pleased to obey Him from entering damnation and gives to us his Holy Spirit to indwell and preserve us from sinning and entering damnation anyway.
