Fresh additions to yesterday’s message from the Lord — added this morning. It’s on His heart! Fleecing!
When we first got saved, many of us started in churches under denominations that rejected the words from Jesus about the gift He came to bring us from Father – God. It is the precious gift of being baptized — by Jesus Christ, himself– in the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues that the Holy Spirit gives (Acts 1:8). So, we tended to look at the Old Testament lives for our example of communicating with God.
We need to clarify our behavior with the Old Testament. Jesus had not come! The Holy Ghost had not been sent! The baptism in the Holy Ghost had not been gifted! Jesus had not yet been glorified! Today we don’t rely on following signs. Our Lord, Jesus expects us to ask Him for his wisdom and get into His Gospel to learn and confirm what He is revealing to do.
Our Lord instructed us through his Apostle James, 1:5 and 3:13-18
James 1:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
James 3:17-18 King James Version (KJV)
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
Our Lord said through our brother and his Apostle Matthew, 12:39
“But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas”:
Our Lord said to Thomas: (witnessed by John, 20:29)
Jesus saith unto him, “Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed”.
Our Lord, himself, said the most important thing of all concerning how He expects us to “hear” him — meaning how to recognize it is Him directing us what to do and how to do it — or NOT:
John 12:48 King James Version (KJV)
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
This precious gift of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit by Jesus, himself, provides us with the ability to “hear” God as Jesus did when he was in this flesh body. We see spiritual things in the realm of the Holy Spirit as Jesus did. Above all, we understand His Word clearer and deeper, without the need for formal and college education in Greek or Hebrew “letters” (John 7:15, Acts 4:13).
Since Jesus had the Holy Spirit “without measure” and we are given by Him only a measure (which He increases to faithful Christians) our hearing and seeing is not at the exact same level as Jesus. When He finally returns the second time, we shall see Him as He is! We shall have this level of hearing and seeing, exactly as He does. There will be no “need” for the gifts of the Holy Spirit as now — because we will actually BE THERE! HALLELUJAH!
Meanwhile, we find ourselves in situations where we must know the will of God, down here! What do we rely on? How can we know … that we know … that we know?
Our Lord, Jesus explained that ALL of His sheep recognize Him (Jesus our friend) speaking to them, whether baptized in the Holy Ghost or not … and a stranger (demon enemies) we will not follow (John Chapter 10).
We rely on the NEW TESTAMENT GOSPEL! Invisible evil spirits pressure us by bringing thoughts to our minds that have a tone, motive, or use of the Lord’s Words that do NOT sound like the Lord we have become intimate with through the written Gospel! We get to know our Lord’s tone, motive, and use of WORDS by being pastored, evangelized, prophesied upon, and foundation preaching laid in our hearts. Intimacy with Jesus does come as we read, study, converse, pray and praise in the Words of our Lord! All of this comes from trusting and obeying his original Apostles’ writings.
I know that if my spiritual experience is contrary to Christ’s tone of voice or manner, his motive in heart, or his purpose in using His words — it is Satan, working his supernatural power against me — to gain a “strong hold on my mind” and slowly destroy my relationship with Jesus.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love
The passage of 1 John 4:4-8 keeps us grounded!
In that passage of 1 John 4:4-8, you learn the truth about tone, motive, and usage when the word (written, spoken, a vision, a dream, an angel, etc,) is from the Lord, Jesus Christ! Knowing that truth frees us from any strange guiding we think we are getting from the Lord (John 8:31).
In the Old Testament, sometimes a person would ask God to guide them or prove to them by a sign — some spiritual experience of a dream, vision, miracle, etc. This is commonly referred to as asking for a fleece – like Gideon did. Read that Manoah did similar, believing signs instead of the Word sent by God. God chose to help Moses’ unbelief with signs. This is why Jesus explained that signs are for UNBELIEVERS — unbelieving what???? Unbelief of a simple word from the Lord … is why people ask for a sign. His word is not enough!
We who are living obedient to Jesus’ written, and spoken, words everyday do not need or ask for signs — fleecing. Fleecing is a dangerous way to live. It sets us up through our willingness to seek after or follow experience versus the word of God. Satan will notice that inclination in us and use it to take us to a special place in the spirit-realm and a condition in spiritual knowledge that we never want to go — “DECEIVED” — SEDUCED AWAY FROM CHRIST while thinking we are with Him!
If we choose … “Lord, if you want me to do that, then do this to let me know” as our way of walking with God, we leave from seeking only His written word to guide us. Yet, Jesus says it is His written word that He uses to judge us! John 12:48 teaches us to know that Jesus holds us responsible to know His written words of the New Testament and to keep them for how we live, interact, and make decisions.
Let us stay on the safe ground of the New Testament Gospel and avoid “fleecing”. You will, eventually, get into trouble where Satan gives you a lying vision (trance), a dream, a set of events, or set of circumstances, or even a religion claiming to be Christian! Each of these will seem to indicate that Jesus is speaking to you or is directing you to a certain way of thinking, or behaving, or taking action. “NOBODY” will be able to convince you that it was not the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ leading you!
Once we get into the condition that no brethren, pastors or teachers, evangelists, prophets, or apostles sent by God can convince us that our experience is not according to the word of God and the motives of God — then, only God can save us. Only God can, sovereignly, deliver us from the demon supernatural power of delusion and the spiritual prison where Satan takes us captive. Satan, at that point, has gained a very “strong hold” on our minds through the spiritual experience we have believed. That condition is called in the written New Testament, DECEIVED.
The remedy for getting out of that condition or any other sin condition is still the same in the New Testament Gospel. HUMBLE oneself to receive repentance so you can recover yourself. Repentance is confessing GOD’S truth about your experience — “that it does NOT agree with Your written word, Lord … and so, I REJECT WHAT I’VE BEEN BELIEVING and acknowledge it to be a trick from Satan. Please forgive me, Lord”!
2 Timothy 2:25-26 King James Version (KJV)
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Repeating … Jesus Christ holds us responsible and accountable to know His written words of the New Testament and to keep them for how we live, interact, and make decisions.
Let us stay on the safe ground of the New Testament Gospel and avoid making visions, dreams, circumstances, events, or any other thing our authority ABOVE THE WRITTEN WORDS OF CHRIST!
Let us not be “fleecers”.
Let us be DISCIPLES — A “disciplined obeyer” of the New Testament words of Jesus Christ (John 8:31).
Jesus loves us … if we get in that “deceived” condition, he will be eager to deliver us. He will be waiting for us to cry out to Him in honesty. Then He, absolutely, will give a glorious healed life of love for the brethren and that glory to Him!
Jeremiah 32:27 King James Version (KJV)
27 Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
Luke 1:37 King James Version (KJV)
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
